What is campus ministry?
“Campus ministry is an expression of the Church’s special desire to be
present to all who are involved in higher education and to further the
dialogue between the Church and the academic community. Campus ministry
seeks to proclaim the Good News and work in higher education toward the
goal of developing a culture in which human beings can realize their
full potential. The faith community and higher education are involved
in the common pursuit of the life of wisdom. This pursuit finds
fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the wisdom of God who reveals the mystery
of human existence. Campus ministry is the public presence and service
through which baptized persons are empowered by the Spirit to use their
gifts on behalf of the Church in order to be instruments in the
Kingdom.“ (Empowered by the Spirit).
Where is Campus ministry? What do we
do?
Campus ministry communities are
at Lynchburg College, Randolph College, and Liberty University.
The mission of the ministry is: to provide a spiritual “home away from
home” for students, faculty and staff. Our community is involved in a
balance of spiritual, social and service opportunities. The ministry
enables each of us to grow in our faith journey while making great
friends and helping others. The aspects of campus ministry include:
- Forming the Faith
Community
- Appropriating the
Faith
- Forming the
Christian Conscience
- Educating for
Justice
- Facilitating
Personal Development
- Developing Leaders
for the Future
- Being present to
the Institution (of which we are a part) Empowered by the Spirit
Together we celebrate Mass
weekly on campus at LC, eat meals together, have spiritual opportunities
such as bible studies, sponsor ecumenical/interfaith gatherings, spend
time in fellowship and volunteer on our campuses and in the greater
Lynchburg community. There are also many diocesan workshops and
retreats of which students may take advantage. Campus ministry hopes to
link the students more closely with the canonically tied parishes to
foster a vital future for both the students and the Church in bringing
the Kingdom of God to those around us.

Meet in the Chapel at 12 noon to
hear about LC’s partnership with Matenwa Community Learning

affect change and are in solidarity with our Haitian

distances to retrieve water, food, and supplies. There is a
suggested $10.00 donation for the hike. All proceeds to go
directly to the center. We will take vans over to the
Blackwater Creek Trail and hike approximately 5 miles. See
