What is Young Adults Ministry?
"Young adulthood is a
passage of life when new decisions are made, paths are taken and a
place is established in one's community. Young adult ministry is for
those in their 20's and 30's (singles or young families), with varied kinds of work and goals. It provides an
opportunity to share friendship, fellowship and faith with other Catholic Christians.
Young adult ministry encourages people to
interact among themselves, with the parish and beyond. A mark of the ministry is
multicultural hospitality; everyone is welcome. The ministry is organized by young adults
with the support of parish staff, and provides a forum for social, spiritual and
educational activities."
From the Diocese of Richmond Home Page:
That is our "technical definition". If you
ask us, the Young Adult Ministry is about friendship. When the Lynchburg YAM was started
about 2 years ago, it was nothing more than a few friends getting together every month or
two.
Now we have grown. We offer a wide range of activities from sports
to movies to out-of-town adventures. Beyond social activities we are continually trying to
include activities that are spiritual and service in nature. These have included Bible
studies, Summer Theologica, and retreats as well as helping provide manpower to our
parishes and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
Some of the
ways we share our faith is:

Gathering as friends.

Still our focus remains clear. We are young Catholics in
our 20s and 30s who meet to develop friendships within our parishes. Our
membership is open to all young Catholics: single, married and with families.
There are no membership fees or obligations. Our membership philosophy is best
summed up as: "Join us w hen you
can."
