The Purposes of Prayer By prayer we adore God for His infinite perfections. We thank Him for His many gifts. We express our sorrow to Him for the sins we have committed. We ask Him for all the things we need, both spiritual and temporal.
The Beatitudes
Lord Jesus Christ, I consecrate myself today anew and without reserve to your divine Heart. I consecrate to you my body with all its senses, my soul with all its faculties, my entire being. I consecrate to you all my thoughts, words and deeds, all my sufferings and labors, all my hopes, consolations and joys. In particular I consecrate to you this poor heart of mine so that it may love only you and may be consumed as a victim in the fire of your love. I place my trust in you without reserve and I hope for the remission of my sins through your infinite mercy. I place within your hands all my cares and anxieties. I promise to love you and to honor you till the last moment of my life, and to spread, as much as I can, devotion to your most Sacred Heart. Do with me what you will, my Jesus. I deserve no other reward except your greater glory and your holy love. Take this offering of myself and give me a place within your divine Heart forever. Amen. O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you. I detest all my sins, because of your just punishments, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen. Act of Contrition My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy. Act of Contrition O my God, I am sorry for my sins because I have offended you. I know I should love you above all things. Help me to do penance, to do better, and to avoid anything that might lead me to sin. Amen. O my God, I firmly believe in you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior and Redeemer, and in the holy Catholic Church and all the truths it teaches. Amen. O my God, relying on your great goodness, and on all your promises, I hope to obtain pardon for sins, the help of your grace and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen. O my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul and with all my strength, because you are all good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me, and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen. The angel spoke Gods message to Mary Soul of Christ, sanctify me. I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty, from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body; and life everlasting. Amen. Bless us, 0 Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Or: The eyes of all hope in you, Lord, and you give them food in due season. You open your hand, and every creature is filled with your blessing. Or: Blessed are you, Lord our God, ruler of the universe, for you bring forth bread from the earth. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and you will renew the face of the earth. Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right and always rejoice in your consolation. I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do; and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. O Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary I offer you my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart: for the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for all the intentions of our Bishops and all Apostles of Prayer and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month. Amen. Blessed be God. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. I adore you, my God, and I love you with all my heart. I give you thanks for having created me, for having made me a Christian and for having preserved me this day. Pardon me for any evil I may have done today; accept any good I have accomplished. Keep me while I take my rest and deliver me from all dangers. May your grace be always with me. Amen. Glory to God in the highest and peace to his
people on earth.
Hail, Holy Queen Hail, Holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs, mournings and weepings in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, our eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of you womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen Father, For peace from on high and for our salvation, let
us pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. All-powerful and ever-living God, the lasting health of all who believe in you, hear us as we ask your loving help for the sick; restore their health, that they may again offer joyful thanks in your Church. Or: God of love, ever caring, ever strong, stand by us in our time of need. Watch over your child who is sick, Look after him/her in every danger, and grant him/her your healing and peace. Lord Jesus Christ, by your patience in suffering you hallowed earthly pain and gave us the example of obedience to your Fathers will: Be near me in my time of weakness and pain; sustain me by your grace, that my strength and courage may not fail; heal me, if it be your will; and help me always to believe that what happens to me here is of little account if you hold me in eternal life, my Lord and my God. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen
The Magnificat My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, From this day all generations will called me blessed: He has mercy on those who fear Him in every generation. He has shown the strength of His arm, He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, He has filled the hungry with good things, He has come to the help of His servant Israel Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help and sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen I arise today through the strength of heaven, Father, O Little Therese of the Child Jesus, please pick for me a rose from the heavenly gardens and send it to me as a message of love. O Little Flower of Jesus, ask God today to grant the favors I now place with confidence in your hands...(mention specific request)...St. Therese, help me to always believe, as you did, in God's great love for me, so that I might imitate your "Little Way" each day. Amen. O Holy Spirit of God, take me as your disciple. Guide me. Illuminate me. Sanctify me. Bind my hands, that they may do no evil. Cover my eyes, that they may see no more. Sanctify my heart, that evil may not dwell within me. Be my God, be my guide. Wheresoever you lead me, I will go. Whatsoever you command me, in your strength I will do. Lead me, then, unto the fullness of your truth. Amen. My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Or: Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy. Or: Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Or: Lord, turn to us in mercy, and forgive all our sins that we may serve you in true freedom. Father of mercies and God of consolation, you do not wish the sinner to die but to be converted and live. Come to the aid of your people, that they may turn from their sins and live for you alone. May we be attentive to your word, confess our sins, receive your forgiveness, and be always grateful for your loving kindness. Help us to live the truth in love and grow into the fullness of Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen. Or: Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks. When you punish us, you show your justice; when you pardon us, you show your kindness; yet always your mercy enfolds us. When you chastise us, you do not wish to condemn us; when you spare us, you give us time to amend for ours sins through Christ our Lord. Amen. Or: God and Father of us all, you have forgiven our sins and sent us your peace. Help us to forgive each other and to work together to establish peace in the world. Praise Of God For Christ, Our Light Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light no darkness can overpower. All praise be yours, God our Creator, as we wait in joyful hope for the flowering of justice and the fullness of peace. All praise for this day, this Friday. By our weekly fasting and prayer cast out the spirit of war, of fear and mistrust, and make us grow hungry for human kindness, thirsty for solidarity from everyone who desires me ill, afar and near, alone or in a multitude. Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in the eye that sees me, Christ in the ear that hears me. Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith: where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may seek not so much to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned. It is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen. We turn to you for protection, holy Mother of God. Listen to our prayers and help us in our needs. Save us from every danger, glorious and blessed Virgin. Blessed be the name of Mary, virgin and mother. Mary, holy virgin mother, I have received your Son, Jesus Christ. With love you became his mother, gave birth to him, nursed him, and helped him grow to manhood. With love I return him to you, to hold once more, to love with all your heart, and to offer him to the Holy Trinity as our supreme act of worship for your honor and for the good of all your children. Mother, ask God to forgive my sins and to help me serve him more faithfully. Keep me true to Christ until death, and let me come to praise him with you for ever and ever. Amen. V. Queen of Heaven rejoice, alleluia. R. The Son whom you merited to bear, alleluia. V. Has risen as He said, alleluia. R. Pray to God for us, alleluia. V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. R. Because our Lord is truly risen, alleluia. V. Let us pray. R. God of life, You have given joy to the world by the resurrection of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Through the prayers of His mother, the Virgin Mary, bring us happiness of eternal life. We ask this through Christ our Lord, amen Holy Saint Anthony, gentle and powerful in your help, your love for God and charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were always ready to request for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me (request). The answer to my prayer may require a miracle. Even so, you are the Saint of miracles. Gentle and loving Saint Anthony, whose heart is ever full of human sympathy, take my petition to the Infant Savior for whom you have such a great love, and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen. May the almighty Lord give us a restful night and a peaceful death. Keep us, Lord, as the apple of your eye and shelter us in the shadow of your wing. Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace. Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit. O Lord our God, make us lie down in peace and raise us up to life. Visit this house, we beg you, Lord, and banish from it the deadly power of the evil one. May your holy angels dwell here to keep us in peace, and may your blessing be always upon us. Hear us, Lord, and send your angel from heaven to visit and protect, to comfort and defend all who live in this house. Unfailing Prayer to St. Anthony "Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints" O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me (request). O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen. Go forth, Christian soul, from this world in the name of God the almighty Father, who created you, in the name of Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who suffered for you, in the name of the Holy Spirit, who has poured out upon you, go forth, faithful Christian. May you live in peace this day, may your home be with God in Zion, with Mary, the virgin mother of God, with Joseph, and all the angels and saints. Saints of God, come to his/her aid! Eternal rest grant to him/her/them, 0 Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him/her/them. Or: Loving and merciful God, we entrust our brother/sister to your mercy. You loved him/her greatly in this life: now that he/she is freed from all its cares, give him/her happiness and peace for ever. The old order has passed away; welcome him/her now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus, your Son, and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen. Or: God of all consolation, in your unending love and mercy for us you turn the darkness of death into the dawn of new life. Show compassion to your people in their sorrow Be our refuge and our strength to lift us from the darkness of this grief to the peace and light of your presence. Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by dying for us, conquered death and by rising again, restored life. May we then go forward eagerly to meet him, and after our life on earth be reunited with our brothers and sisters where every tear will be wiped away. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
